Strontium Nitrate is used as an analytical reagent and cathode material for electron tubes. It is also used to manufacture fireworks, signal flares, flamethrowers, matches, television image tubes, optical glass, and in medicine.
White crystalline or powder substance. It contains 4 molecules of crystal water when crystallized at low temperature. It is soluble in 1.5 parts of water and has a neutral water solution. It is slightly soluble in ethanol and acetone. Its relative density is 2.990. The melting point is 570℃. It has low toxicity with LD50 (oral, rat) of 2750mg/kg. It has strong oxidizing properties and can cause combustion or explosion when rubbed or impacted with organic substances. It is irritating. Main ingredient: content: reagent grade ≥99.5%, industrial grade ≥99%.
1) Handling Notes
Operation should be performed in a closed system and local ventilation should be used to prevent the release of dust to the workshop air. Operators must be trained and strictly follow operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-absorbing filter masks, chemical safety goggles, rubber protective clothing, and rubber gloves. Keep away from heat sources, sparks, and smoking in the workplace is strictly prohibited. Avoid forming dust and keep it away from flammable and combustible materials. Avoid contact with reducing agents and acids. Equip with appropriate types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and emergency leakage treatment equipment. The emptied container may contain harmful substances.
2) Storage Notes
The Strontium Nitrate product should be stored in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep it away from heat sources and direct sunlight. The packaging should not be damaged and should be stored separately from reducing agents, acids, and flammable materials. Equip with appropriate types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. There should be suitable materials to contain any spilled material in the storage area.
3) Packaging Methods
The packaging of Strontium Nitrate can be a plastic bag or a two-layer kraft bag with an open or partially open steel drum (with a steel plate thickness of 0.5mm and a net weight of not more than 50kg per drum) which is then placed in a wooden box or a common wooden box outside the plastic bag or two-layer kraft bag; Threaded mouth glass bottles, iron cover pressure mouth glass bottles, plastic bottles or metal barrels (cans) should be packed in common wooden boxes outside the packaging.
4) Transportation Notes
During railway transportation, it should be strictly in accordance with the dangerous goods packaging and loading table of the Ministry of Railways. The Strontium Nitrate product should be transported separately, and the container should not leak, fall, collapse or be damaged during transportation. The transport vehicle should be equipped with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. It is strictly prohibited to transport with acids, flammable materials, organic materials, reducing agents, self-igniting materials, or moisture-sensitive flammable materials. The speed should not be too fast, and overtaking is not allowed. For highway transportation, the specified route should be followed. Before and after loading and unloading, the transport vehicle should be thoroughly cleaned and washed to prevent the inclusion of organic materials and flammable materials.
